You wonder why we don't. And it is not because of some fantasy about a happy, cohesive, multi-cultural utopia, although many out there believe in a movement towards that. It is the harsh reality of our world

I will throw out some factors. All off the top of my head. Hardly an informed essay on the subject, but I would be interested in your views.

1. There isn't a single western country that has not experienced large immigration from Islamic populations. We are not alone. None have even advocated what you suggest. Why not?

2. All have ageing populations and a shrinking working population of those indigenous to their nation. AI can only fill some of the vacancies needed to keep the nation running at a profit. These people fill many of those vacancies.

3. If you are going to increase the working population, what better than from a pool of that country's elite young males who practically walk 100s miles thorough desserts and traverse seas and frontiers to get here.

4. Like it or not, Brexit operated as a choice unwittingly made by the British electorate to favour largely semi-literate, permanent immigration from those sources over literate, largely semi-permanent European immigration. You reap what you sow.

5. What you propose may be internationally condemned and may break international law. Indeed, the sort of thing you suggest would be more in keeping with a failed tinpot state. No "advanced" nation wants to be seen as that. Some of it stealthily introduced could work, but why do none do it? We have the most populist right wing government this country has recently had, so why not?

6. The cost is one. What you propose would cost a fortune. OK, we can afford it. However, it is the opportunity cost which no politician will bear, and especially the inevitable loss of funding to the sacred cow that is the NHS. Immigration control of the sort you advocate would be a money pit and electoral suicide.

7. The domestic push back is another. On one level, there are those liberal types who would see this country falling into some national socialist vortex and would protest in their millions. On another, domestic terrorism, which is largely controlled and well monitored, would go off the scale.

8. Then there is the international reaction. I don't mean a repeat of 5 above, I mean from largely Islamic nations who will justifiably believe we have become anti-Islam. Our voice in the middle east will completely disappear as it will in Malaysia, Indonesia and the entire Indian sub-continent. We trade with many of those nations and a great deal of our income is derived from there. It could be the definition of the shot in the foot.

9. Finally, whoever does this must do it in tandem with every other country as you need somewhere to send them "back" to. What if Syria, Mali or pakistan won't take them? Rwanda has agreed to take some as a "holding pen"; but of the numbers you suppose?; and for how long? A permanent refugee camp in the middle of Africa of 100,000s being bank-rolled by HM Government with plenty of the cash being syphoned off into the pockets of corrupt officials? Not a hope.
