What I am concerned with, as are many people, is how we can retain our european citizenship.

The idea of 'associate' membership retaining our benefits and culture is attractive so hopefully there will be something for those of us who want it.

Exactly my point and example above. This is what is being challenged in court in the Netherlands right now.

What a load of cobblers.

No-one really knows why people voted as they did but speaking as a member of the older generation who voted Brexit a supposed hatred of foreigners had nothing to do with it

In fairness quite a lot of studies/surveys have been done on why people voted the way they did. For instance we know that people who viewed things like gender equality, sexual equality, immigration, climate preservation as forces for ill voted Brexit in c.80% of cases.

I agree, it is a big piece of progress but much more to the advantage of the EU. For the UK, in relative terms it's massive progress compared to what the 'brexiteers' demanded, which was no transition, no deal with the EU. That clearly will not happen now and definitely not suit their agenda at all.

What hasn't been sorted out yet is the EU citizenship of those UK citizens who are living outside the UK and in the EU. They have a right to retain that status and I can see some huge court cases with massive litigation if that isn't resolved.

I can also see a new referendum being organised during the next 20 months, maybe taking place around the Autumn of 2020.

A referendum on what?

Today saw 7 Brexit promises made by the government broken. They've handled the whole thing appallingly. I read an article today likening Theresa May et al to Macbeth which I thought was quite a good analogy. She's in so far that the only route she can take is to carry on regardless of the consequences. "What's done cannot be undone", and perhaps most fittingly "For mine own good, all causes shall give way".

It all depends on what your perception of 'advantage' is...the fact we're leaving the EU (However it happens) would be considered an advantage by those that voted for it...but then again I appreciate you may have a skewed stance on the matter not residing here and clearly being subject to EU centric media etc etc...as always we'll make the best of what we have, the key is knowing there is now some certainty and timescales...that's by in large the biggest factor for business, as they like to KNOW what is planned so they can prepare for it...regardless of what it is that is planned.

Still no deal/detail on customs, on services, on air travel, on fisheries, on agriculture, on migration post Brexit, on trade deals (can't start negotiating the ones we're losing let alone new ones until 2019).

Didn't have to be like this. Theresa bodged it by enacting article 50 before doing any prep. Presented the EU with an open goal. She's done an appalling job with Brexit and just about everything else.

I think the transition will lead to a close alignment with the EU.

Today a relief for business and good day for the Chancellor.

er, to stay or leave the EU once ALL of the details of any deal for trade/immigration/citizenship/ Northern Ireland is actually known and agreed. That will be towards the end of 2020. That is the only time a referendum should take place, when you know what's on the table that you're voting for.

She’s toast after this.

You just don't get it dear boy do you?

Remoaners might as well talk to themselves for all it matters. Leaving was voted for in this country with all the economic fear mongering in full voice.

I even had a leaflet delivered through my door from the government pushing the remain message complete with lies about economic disaster from the treasury.

Get it straight cloth ears.

A majority of us don't like the EU.....even a percent who were frightened into voting remain resent it.

We are leaving because we don't want immigration from the EU and control from its politicians and undemocratic commission.

That isn't going to change.

Well, at the moment you might be 'leaving' but the EU has called all of the shots during the so called 'negotiations'. So, old boy, the worst of both worlds for you is on track.

Regarding those that don't 'like' the EU, they've never understood the very basics of the EU, a very typical fear of change even if when it's for the better.

Even I didn't predict the number of u-turns that have been made so far and remember, many, many more still to be made during the next 18 months. Still, I'm impressed with the brave face you and your ilk are putting on despite many of the 'brexit' demands being pushed into the gutter by the EU. How long can you keep that face before it cracks?

Wow, it takes some self delusion to state that those that don't like the EU don't understand it. You're some level of EU-phile that's for sure.

It's almost as deluded as your presentation of the Brexit negotiations.

Even if it is the very worst of deals, we are leaving and I'm delighted.

yeah, sure you're delighted, as delighted as that buffoon Jacob Rees-Mogg, who apparently is going to be on a boat in the Thames throwing in dead fish. Couldn't make that up if I tried, hilarious. If it was the French fishermen they would have blockaded Calais and all other channel ports in protest. That's real passion which is the big, big differentiator between the UK and the rest of Europe. It's also the reason why the EU group of 27 sovereign nations are walking all over the UK in these so called 'negotiations'.

Still, keep a stiff upper lip old chap, well for at least another 18 months.

Regarding 'Europhiles', not me, I just live in countries that give me the best quality of life that I can find. I discovered so many great places in continental Europe and in doing so, debunked many of the EU conspiracy theories that are rammed down people's throats in the UK. Currently in Thailand for a few months potentially eyeing up our next move for the family. We'll see, plenty of choices out there and always keep open minded to learn more about other countries by going and living in them.
