I think that you're right in that most of these players don't have what is required for test cricket. Whether that's their own fault or due to the coaching being tailored for the shorter game is a separate discussion. However, I don't think it's fair to bed new blood into a lose/lose situation before the whole set-up around test cricket and the priorities of the England team has been evaluated. If they're putting new faces in now they should have been brought in a test match earlier but you can argue that is partly aided by hindsight/what-might-have-beens

Perhaps, but for me it's like swimming.....if you can't swim in the deep end you can't really swim....So whether it's fair or not to me is moot....You can either take that big punch on the chin or you can't....You might as well find out early.

Yep. you just know that Warner is going to get some runs.

I think England are centrally contracted to have batting collapses so really it's just their job.

Adds to the excitement. Batting collapses and a full five days. Sounds almost impossible.

I am hoping against hope that England can at least bat until lunchtime tomorrow as I have tickets for Sunday. I would like to see some cricket.

Looking dicey my man, but fingers crossed for you.

Appalling batting on a good wicket. One day specialists playing test cricket . Embarrassing.

It would be nice if this England team could prove me wrong once in a while.

All that money that goes to them and the supporting structure.

Players like Boycott in the sixties came from a harder time and was a far less rewarded cricketer....yet I wager we'd have scored a lot more with our sixties side on that pitch than we have seen today.

Ultimately it's those neo liberal money whores at the ECB who are to blame.

The one day specialist is the only one to have made a decent score so far

I am still hopeful day 4 will see the conclusion of the match either way. Having backed Australia to win yesterday at 7/2 when we were 100/2 if England fall in a hole second time round I will have a silver lining.

Joe Root should have played forward not back, most of the rest was poor technique and we're lucky the Aussies dropped a few.

Rooty passed 7,000 runs in test cricket in that innings.

All those knocks of 50+, don't complain would you rather he didn't?

Mostly achieved while trying to anchor the innings with one day players around him.
