That is obviously not the relevant stat for this conversation. I'd imagine at least 1/3rd, if not more premier league footballers are black.

Whatever the reasoning for getting rid of them, they were all dreadful and in my view unwatchable. Hopefully they get some younger talent on there who have played the game more recently and realise that being a good football pundit doesn't just involve trying to be a lad.

Isn't it? I thought that SSN was for the general public, not current professional footballers.
It might well be true that there are bound to be more TV pundits who are Black in the future but their ability in front of the camera should be the deciding factor on whether they have a new career, not their skin colour.
We live in a world where we are constantly told that skin colour doesn't matter and yet then we are told that we must promote Black interests. Black Lives Matter, Black this Black that. When did you last hear something described relating to people starting with the word 'White' other than a racist insult?

Do you see the problem?

You can't have your cake and eat it. You can't employ this type of doublethink hypocrisy and not expect resistance.

If you think that it is their ability that's most important, then surely you need to wait to see who the replacements are and if they're better before you get this upset about it?

Further, if it is the ability that's most important, then people who know what they're talking about are the pool of people able to selected from. That pool is more black than the rest of the population. Therefore, something closer to 35% is the right statistic. There are a lot of Janets who are 70+. living in the UK who have never watched a game of football who are totally irrelevant for the purposes of picking a SSN panel.

For tv it’s popularity actually and the people have to reflect the audience to some level. There have been quite a lot of good black pundits but this programme is a bit different in the sense the viewer feels they’re in the room or in the pub with the panel. If the viewer can’t relate to them they’ll switch off. If the panel needed changing they would’ve changed it and if BLM or matt le tissier’s comments didn’t happen they’d still be there. I don’t watch and don’t intend to mainly because I’m not in the demographic that guess what, relates to the panel, plus I’m at football or doing stuff before. Like I said before, it’s a bit odd that young people don’t watch tv, own as many homes or subscribe to sky’s high packages in the same numbers the target audience does. It’s sky operating like a government funded media machine. Viewing figures and advertising will decide. If they have a woman on with no top division football stories or experience to draw from it’s doomed.

Funnily young people watch more sport on illegal streams than through a normal tv subscription.

FWIW black culture, faces, interests, whatever should be on tv, but there’s being sensible about it. For example:

BBC spending £100 mil on a diversity agency = bad
BBC having ethnic minorities on the board = good
But that would cost them jobs and salaries. There’s also an argument that black producers don’t get their work aired and only tv creativity that’s ‘urban’ gets on. Well I’m bored of urban tv and it promotes a lot of bad behaviour and morals so I’d see it as a double positive, if they reduced the urban stuff.

Afua Hirsch trying time get statues and history erased = bad
Afua Hirsch presenting a culture series exploring Africa = good

So you see it’s about whether it’s sensible or forced through without any sense of thought, not - you not nice and racist, you nice.

Being politically incorrect I don't think you should get a place on a board because you're a minority and tick a box and I don't want to see Afua Hirsch make a serious exploring Africa.....To be precise I don't want Afua Hirsch at all.

Let those that want to see Hirsch, fund her and she can make whatever it is for them.

She’s on channel 4 or channel 5 I think so it isn’t our say. Advertising again.

Edit: I think it’s on BBC4 so probably the right bbc channel considering it’s culture and history and not drama or current Covid propaganda. It’s away from changing Britain to her vision so I’m not fussed.

I agree that if you’re good enough to be on the board but at the same time I doubt all of those white faces should be on the board either. We know the parameters they have to stay within, and I incidentally forgot to say the bbc board shouldn’t be all left wing, ethnic minorities included, and there non left wing black people around. They’re either getting on with their lives instead of being consumed by this stuff or kept away and only have Twitter to speak, although Twitter is becoming a powerful tool and influence on individuals and changing the media narrative.

I wasn't aware of that and yes it's a complete joke I don't understand why large companies have diversity managers or even departments.

Most organisations have an HR every person in that department should live and breath diversity and equality.

Firstly it's the law, secondly it's good business practice. If you want to attract the top talent do you want to be known as the company that obeys the law or the company that exceeds and excels in promoting diversity.

Diversity in itself is not a bad thing although I prefer the term fairness which is less politically motivated.

How you achieve fairness in your organisation is the real issue. I don't believe that hiring a lot of managers with titles actually works that well its just another layer of bureaucracy and guess what if you pay someone to just look at that issue they will always find a problem otherwise they are out of a job, its a self fulfilling prophesy.

And what exactly are HR doing all day? They no longer do payroll, it should be ingrained into their culture so they don't even think about it they just do it.

Each departmental manager should also feel that way and if they don't well bye bye.

Anyway that's how my company did it as a manager it was down to me I didn't need some third person to tell me.

I'd pay to watch her go on a tour of Eastern Europe and tell the people there that they're all racist. Great viewing. Not a long series though - probably less than one episode is all that they would get.

if the demographic of pundits must match the demographic of players then easy....

fill every panel with feckers who can barely read, write or speak English. regardless of colour.

Good point.....if Owen Jones can be convinced to go as well I might just tune into that particular episode of passionate 'social justice'.

Everything has to evolve to keep going and this will be about who they replace these three with.
Le Tiss is good and was also a gifted footballer and will be a huge loss in my opinion.
If he said What he said - who cares- I am heartily sick and tired of people needing to be gagged by the pc/some brigade.
Sky are now in this category.
I turned on SSN in the week to find the Wisconsin story being the main headline - it is a Sports channel for goodness sake.
Sky and the BBC are just promoting Women to men's football, cricket etc regardless of their lack of talent and that is effectively positive discrimination which in turn is just as bad as any other type of discrimination.
For me - if the make up of the panel is pc then they will lose me as a viewer because the banter is a huge part of the show.
Alex Scott and Clinton are simply not up to their jobs but they continue to be promoted by these ridiculous people.
As our mad world gets even madder and as my opinions - along with millions of other hard working average members of the population - become even more marginalised I start to be happy that the end of my life is a lot closer than the beginning of it.
