How much of that is down to West Ham paying the asking price whilst we dick around.

You put your 'dick' where you like, tho dont let certain posters on here know your intentions.

Mendes was instrumental in the owners buying Wolves to begin with so whilst it’s possible, I doubt it. And if it were purely results based, I’m sure people close enough to the club would’ve known.

Once Nuno, lost a couple of top men, last summer, and Jimenez, mid- season, he was handling a bang average team.
It wasn’t going that well. And I bet he was pleased to see the back of it when the season ended without Wolves , being in more of a mess due to a decent first half season. . It if anything highlights the idea that any manager devoid of the service of three or four top, top class players to add to a workman like squad will struggle to get enough results fo comfort.
Nuno, can oversee some decent winning football , but if the second half of the season is to be taken seriously, only when the players are up to it. So without investment where would that leave us? Or Nuno, for that matter.

He lost Jimenez and of course Jota was sold to Liverpool and these players had scored 42 goals between them in all competitions the previous season.
Doherty was sold to Tottenham and he lost Jonny to injury and these were influential players for them.

This was so, and it doesn’t make him a bad manager, because things didn’t go at all well without there input.
But it highlights that generally managers are not magicians, and in fact hang there best chance of real success on the ability of quality players,. Yes they need organising , but if the players can not go beyond a certain level, then adaptability can be the only saving grace. Hodgson, had that, does Nuno, ? The second half of this season gone would call that into question.

Not necessarily, no. Liverpool were arguably the best team in the world for the couple of seasons preceding the last and their net spend was nowhere near their rivals. We were nowhere near relegation despite having a minus net spend under Roy. Burnley are consistently low spenders and are swerving relegation every year. United have spent staggering amounts since Sir Alex left and haven’t really won anything significant. Valérien Ismaël, the guy I’m routing for to join Palace finished 5th in the championship on a budget of next to nothing. This could go on.

The point is this, Wolves aren’t in the position they are as a result of "pluckiness" and defying the odds. They are where they are as a result of spending big and hiring a very good manager. But there is a reason that manager has left the club and even those with the biggest links to Wolves aren’t entirely sure what it is. If it were simply wanting to return to Portugal as reported initially, he wouldn’t be joining another club in England. If it’s not down to that, and he joins Palace of all clubs, there is a good chance that it’s political, Mendes is involved and as soon as the board refuse to bow down to his demands, he’ll jump the Palace ship, too.

Whilst Nuno would be the headline appointment - that doesn’t make him the best fit for the club. If he were coming no strings attached it would definitely be a coup, but he won’t.

I'm thinking the same. For me the best fit is someone who sees us as a medium to long term project and wants to make it happen. We don't want someone who's going to do an Ancelotti and disappear when a better offer comes along. Who the right person is, I'm not really sure.

Liverpool net spend isnt a good example, they are very shrewd in selling players £200m for Courtinho and Suarez, another £50m for Benteke and Sakho, another £40m for Brewster and Solanke.

Here is my thinking ( possible wishful)

Bruno Lage to Wolves
Pochettino to Spurs
Potter to Everton
Nuno to Palace
Howe or Lampard to Brighton
Cooper to West Brom

I would be delighted with any of those - hope it’s right!

Mate if it’s going to be NES - Parish will need to move quickly with Everton now looking for a new Manager - like it or not Everton will be a bigger draw than us for NES if they come knocking.

The reported 3 days of negotiations will mean nothing - there ain’t no loyalty or sentiment in top flight football its ruthless and mercenary.

Personally I’d be over the moon with NES - huge step and statement in the right direction - but I’ve got a horrible feeling we’re going to get “gazumpped” by Everton.

If that happens back to the drawing board and time we can ill afford to lose with so many players out of contract and a significant rebuilding job to be done.

Come on Steve get NES signed up..!!

Nuno or Dyche Two completely different managers. Either would be better than Lampard who failed with one of the best Chelsea squads in decades.

I had a look on a couple of Swansea fan forums to see how they felt about losing Cooper. Seems a lot of them would quite like to see the back of him due to the boring style of play. Hmmmm

Actually, that would make them the perfect example as to why net spend isn’t necessarily synonymous with league position.
