Hardly Attlee's reset and bold vision is it?

But it is better than being completely scummy for 14 years I guess.

It's obvious that every two or three terms, the electorate has to vote Labour back in just so that another generation can realise what a waste of space they are.

The circle of pond life so to speak.

Of course people could vote the possibility of real political change by voting Reform, but most won't because when push comes to shove, they bottle it.

Attlee had lots of American money given to him, Starmer has bugger all.

I agree and I believe it will happen again. Whilst there is an awful lot i dislike about the governing of this Country since 2010, I find the prospect of a Labour Government genuinely frightening, in so many ways.

Unfortunately it seems that we do have to go through this cycle, by which time even more damage will have been done and after the disaster of the next term I fear it will give the Conservative Party a free run at re-election. This in turn will just give rise to many more examples of everything which has been wrong with the current Parliament and the Conservative Party.

The trouble is that we will hardly notice the difference between the current Tory government and the incoming Labour government. We are overgoverned, overtaxed and constantly lied to.

Is it just your taxes you object to, or everyone’s?

If tax is cut one of two things also has to happen. Either we must increase our, already too high debt, and find lenders, or cut spending on some things. Assuming that increasing debt is not a viable option, where do you believe spending cuts can be made?

I have worked at several levels of employment at local Council level for several councils. The waste of resources is enormous, and I have reason to believe it's the same in Local government and National government level.
When I raised concerns at council level, my employment contract wasn't renewed.
Now I am back with a different Council, and I keep my mouth shut and just do the work.
The people around me would never survive in the commercial sector. They have a reasonably high standard of living, with additional perks, and job security. Flexi-hours and working from home are still being used, and overtime still being claimed
Why would they want to change anything ?

Vaughan Gething, gets in.....

Young, good-looking, would never make it in the USA.

Or England, probably...

The only people who will vote Tory are the politically disinterested in high value areas who worry about the economy and specifically how Labour will target them.

I can understand that to a certain extent but I can't help but not care because most of them sat on their hands and didn't get involved while the Tories became a socially liberal party that mostly agrees with Labour and only differs on fiscal aspects.

They represent no more than 15 to 20 percent of the Tory vote and were never going to succeed ignoring that....The Tories have done all this to themselves. Johnson wasted an 80 seat majority and proved himself a socially liberal lackey trying to be a Cameron clone like the rest of them...Cameron himself being a Tory version of Blair.

Most of us are sick of the right trying to be Blair clones.....they can go and be feminists on their own time. The right will strengthen once Starmer and his commies take over and make the predictable mess the left always make......Well, to be fair, just continue the current mess as they are all social liberals.

I object to everyone's. Yes cut spending. Much of government spending is unnecessary or downright damaging. As another on here has pointed out, the waste, overspending and inefficiency of the public sector is clear and obvious to anyone who has worked in it. Governments are extremely bad at government and as far as possible the people should be allowed to keep and spend their money in ways that they see fit, they are far better at it than governments. People and businesses should drive the economy not government in all its manifestations.

I have made this point before. Local councils do the same job for example council tax, sending out forms and collecting the money is the same process whether you are Bromley or Croydon so councils should co-operate and pool their back office staff to cut costs.

You can still keep a visible presence in the high street but be honest when was the last time you saw a council officer face to face. Most of us communicate by telephone or internet so the councils only need to cater for the small number of people who need a face to face.

Sell off the big plush council offices move the staff to a cheaper location and combine them with other councils and just have a small office in the supermarket or shopping centre.

There are plenty of saving to be made. If you really want to be radical just ship the work off to India it's what the corporates did about 20 years ago.

Quite obviously cutting spending means cutting government spending! Just thinking you can dismiss things as “unnecessary” or “inefficient” isn’t good enough. That’s been the claim of oppositions since time began. You need to be specific. Very specific. What services will you cut or abandon? How much will be saved and how much tax cut as a result?
