When it comes to issues similar to yesterday's penalty decisions, it's back in the realm of opinion.

VAR is useful in terms of offside, where - if used correctly - it can result in a correct call.

But as we saw yesterday, the Richards incident becomes subjective. And the majority think England got it wrong, as do I.

As for the performance, a classic ' smash and grab ' looked on the cards. More clinical finishing could have put the game beyond Villa. It's hugely disappointing to have resisted so well for the majority of the game only to concede so late.

My take on the game there were a lot of decisions particularly in the first half that went our way. I thought Hughes should have been booked for pulling or trying to pull one of there players back when they were breaking away early on and the disallowed goal was also a very tight call. A split second either with the timing of the run or the frame of the video when the ball left the foot and it could easily have stood. Once we went a head we looked more likely to score a second than they were going to get an equaliser. Ward's miss was the pick of the decent chances we created at that time.
I thought the reason we ultimately lost were down was due to fatigue and not having suitable players on the bench. If we had not lost Lerma and Guehi we would have had Hughes and Richards on the bench. Similarly if Ayew had not got injured Mateta would have been brought on later possibly instead of another midfielder. Where as Villa were just bringing on people like Baily and Tilemans who continued to stetch our tiring midfield.
I thought the penalty call was correct. I think Richards went with his wrong foot and although it was a tight one he made contact with leg first and then ball.
A shout to Doucoure - thought he was supurb. Particularly offensively when we got in front. I can see why Liverpool are keen and big money is been talked about. Eze was not as effective as he can be. Villa were showing him the left side but he always wanted to come in side on his right foot and often got crowded out because of it.
