I'd still go for Babacar, Sakho and a #10 for pretty much the same amount of money they're asking for Benteke.

Fairly sure with most players contracts that if the club want to sell the player is entitled to a loyalty payment however if the player asks to leave that money isn't then owed! If I'm right then the agent is just earning his money by coming out and saying what he's saying!

Sound's like agent saying to Liverpool I want my client to receive a pay of from his 5 year contract.
There is no way he will stay at Liverpool he doesn't fit into Klopps plans. Benteke said in may that Klopp ignores him.
Liverpool can't afford to keep a 32 million pound player on 130,000 per week on the bench or not even in the squad.
I don't see who else would come in for him. Clubs in Italy can't afford him.
West ham are getting bacca.
Think it will be done and hopefully soon, driving me mad now.

He has never had the slightest intention of joining us. This is all about setting the price and creating publicity with the intention of getting a "big" club interested. Well apparently they aren't and he would rather sit on the bench than come to us. f*** him.

Sakho and Babacar are no better than Wickham we need to improve not buy very similar players that are not much better than what we have already.
Sakho scored 5 goals and Babacar only scored 4 goals (in the Seria A!) That's as many as Benteke scored by himself 9 goals and he barley got a game last season.

If he still has an issue with his achilles in any way shape or form, then I for one pray we don't sign him. Not at circa 30 mill. That kind of money is madness for a club like Palace on a player with even the smallest question mark over his ongoing fitness. TV deal or otherwise. If we feck it up, FFP will prevent us from splashing big on a replacement. Keep our powder dry for a couple of players in the 15-20m range. If his achilles is 100% recovered then okay but I still wouldn't lose sleep if he didn't sign.

Since the story has been 'dead in the water' for
virtually a week now, other than ITK people in the
media, maybe the sudden change of heart has to do
with the alleged achilles injury ?. Perhaps we pulled
out of the deal, but for 'potential' legal reasons
have not said why ?. Then the agent, who seems to
have been totally silent thus far, announces the
player doesn't want to leave blah blah.
Even by our standards, this has dragged on so long even
allowing for the Euros and his holiday afterwards.
There will be a lot of journalists with egg on their
faces if what his agent has said is true, but I guess what
do they care, they sell papers, waste our time reading them,
but don't get caught up in the emotion and stress of it all like
us fans do.

Exactly my thinking everything was going smooth now this injury comes up and all of a sudden agent says benteke wants to fight for he's place at Liverpool I would say this is over

Clearly,has no intention of signing for us.
All a performance,by him and his agent,prolonging negotiations in the delusional hope that a bigger and better club will come in for him.
Best leave him to get on with his life on the bench at Liverpool and select our next target.

Would be pretty embrassing if all this talk on B eneteke coming to palace over the last month and it all falls though we are now a established premiership team with more money than we've ever had with the new investment and still can't get the transfer over the line

Of course with that much money you can get better than him. Only trouble is, your now talking about the cream of European or south American talent in the £30 mill price range and 90% of those players await the big clubs to come in for them.
What we have found is one of those kind of players whose not currently attracting anyone bigger than us.
Maybe the poster above is correct, go for another striker on Wickhams level but invest heavily in an attacking midfielder who can supply from the central areas. Maybe that will fix our issue and wont require, for now at least, a top striker.
