On the other hand you are incorrect, both about the bookies always winning and about the Leicester result being profitable. Bookies may win in the long term but on single events we lose money every single day to varying degrees. These football specials markets, in particular, are a nightmare and regularly leak money. Additionally the Leicester result was one of the worst in the history of the industry. They were backed from 5000/1 all the way down and at most firms it was, in the end, a case of anyone but them being an acceptable result.

What does seem quite likely is that Palace are in the market for a really good target man/ striker and will probably get one, whether that's Benteke, Babacar, or someone we havnt even heard of y t!

My gut tells me this one will happen. I have the same uneasy feeling about the finances as I had when we went for Cabaye. This feels like Liverpool squeezing every last drop out and West Ham being happy to be seen as a bidder when even they don't fancy it. We are clearly up for this 100% and as such will get a decent CF if we miss out on Benteke so I'm not fussed and in some ways would be happier if we did miss out.

Another dawn, another day spent checking the internet every couple of hours to see if we've signed Benteke.
Am slowly resigning myself to the fact he's not coming. But that still won't stop me checking constantly until it's confirmed!
