Britain’s steel industry will be protected from a flood of cheap imports after Trade Secretary Liz Truss backed away from a major reduction of barriers in one of Britain's first post-Brexit acts of trade policy.

Can you bring yourself to be happy for the people of Sunderland?

Really Kwasi, I think that this is state intervention, welcome back Labour 1970's policies.

The taxpayer will be funding most of this, and much more is needed across the board due to the tory privatisation failures, they cannot milk anymore there is nothing left for shareholders in water for example.

Where does the money come from? Probably we don't have any but in todays crazy world it appears you can just go on borrowing and digitising forever, leaving the next generation to pay (or not).

That amusement when the progressives start using traditional conservative arguments.

None of them would have supported Thatcher over Foot but now all of a sudden it's all about being fiscally practical.

It's like when they suddenly started supporting corporations because they stuck a rainbow flag up after Wall Street.....all of a sudden we started hearing about how private businesses could do what they liked.....Libertarian arguments none of them touched previously.

It's all fake of course....as we saw over the cake situation.

Job losses in the car industry due to brexit were 66,000 at 31/01/21.

So while being pleased for Sunderland its tough for all those other workers.

Please show a source for that number of job losses?

I assume it's not a prediction or assumption.

FT today states that London has regained it's crown from Amsterdam for share trading.

As some of us predicted it was a temporary blip at the start of the year.

It's behind a paywall so sorry I can't post the link.

Interesting article about Amazon using technology to fire people.

This is the reality of the post EU world and will happen Brexit or not. Machines replacing human decision making.

I am not saying this is a good idea but it is a fore taste of the future. Those people who work in sectors of the economy who think they cannot be replaced by a machine maybe in for a rude awakening.

Everybody will aspire to get a zero hours job delivering pizza on their scooter with deliveroo in the future, but it"s not a closed market, there is also uber eats and a few other companies to choose from. Also, you don"t need a scooter , you can jog or cycle to so lots of choice, its win win, the future looks great! And before any wokie snowflakes complain about zero hours contracts, plenty of people only want to work one or two hours a day, so more leisure time, and people who aren"t awake for the 5 am, we want you in for an hour call, don"t deserve the job!

It's why Amazon and Uber are in favour of a universal basic income so they don't have to pay staff a decent salary. UBI is very attractive to the left but they should question why most global corporations are in favour of it, never a good sign.
