The usual; dirty tricks when a by election result matters. From the Guardian Fake pamphlets is nothing new and hopefully the police will find who ever is behind them. However I am more concerned about an official Labour pamphlet: ""Labour was criticised for distributing a flyer to Muslim voters showing Boris Johnson with India’s nationalist prime minister, Narendra Modi, in 2019, along with the message: “Don’t risk a Tory MP who is not on your side.” The Labour MP Navendu Mishra said the “divisive” leaflet sought to turn communities against each other and exposed a “hierarchy of racism” within the party. He added: “We beat our opponents based on policies, not by dog-whistle racism.” This is what happens when you play identity politics at some point you will upset one of the groups that normally support you because you need the support of another group. Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

The official Labour candidate is upsetting the Muslims because she supports gay rights, to win them back Labour then puts out a pamphlet that suggests it is anti Hindu thus upsetting them. Meanwhile the gay rights people are probaly thinking what the hell's going on in Batley. As for the white working class I guess they are being ignored no change there then. I just hope whoever wins represents the constituency but I seriously doubt that.

There is a touch of the Benny Hill about it all. Labour chase these groups and will play whatever games they think win locally including, as you highlight, actions that go against their own so called standards.

What kind of political reality we will be living in come this time in 2022 I have no clue about anymore because so little makes any kind of rational sense at the moment but as things stand, I really struggle to see a path for Labour to make a comeback.

As to tomorrow then all the focus has been on Labour and its struggles with Galloway supposedly nicking all the Muslim votes but I also wonder if the Tories will be able to get enough of their voters out to ensure they take advantage after the fiasco with Hancock? To be fair the fact that a Labour defeat is even being talked about is an upset enough given how these things are meant to pan out but the Tories were also supposed to stroll the recent by-election they lost to the Lib-Dems so we live in interesting times.
