In all but one of the forums that’s true. This one though lets the side down badly. How and why it has become such a repository of hard right opinions is beyond my understanding. Hopefully I can try to represent the majority who don’t think that way.

There is certainly a disturbing trend in the growth of populist hard right politics. The most being the AfD in the eastern German states. How that gets handled will be interesting. Ensuring those who think like that have a voice is important. Making sure that voice remains within democratic limits even more so.

Why is it not just a trend.? Why is it disturbing ? Or rather why do you find it disturbing.?

while i would agree with you. The problem is less about the life-choices of Europeans and more about the Political/socio-economic environment that Europeans now have.

Societies with many career-women (& low fertility) have very expensive housing. And the opposite is true in all of Africa.

If you translate the price of a house into the number of man-hours of, say, a labourer....you will see a stark difference between Marrakech and Clapham. And its possibly a similar labourer doing a similar job with his shovel. One of them is the head of a household with five kids. The other is lucky to be renting a room in a house-share with a bunch of sterile people like in 'Friends'.

The UK was fairer a hundred years ago. Italy, Eastern Germany, Japan.....all not having kids and all going extinct.

i blame the Politicians.

This is just more twaddle.

Everyone knows which immigrants are more problematic than others.
There are significant numbers in those groups who cause a huge disproportion of the trouble.
What you look like is not important. It is about culture, attitudes, historical relationships and religion.
I'm sure there are a number of groups who would and do integrate without too many problems, but we have often chosen very unwisely when it comes to who we allow here.

As far as having more children is concerned. As you know full well, the population explosion which you have denied is a problem on numerous previous occasions is almost entirely about Africa and Asia. Europeans have been failing to replace themselves for many decades now. That is part of our problem. We have killed fathers in two wars and then had increasingly fewer children, especially since the pill became available.

I thought you were being nice to me today and posting common sense!

I don’t believe any large group has a significant number of problematic members. I think there are sub groups who are problems and they aren’t always so easy to identify. I agree it’s about cultural attitudes and the way history is taught. If religion itself is playing a role, and not the way people are choosing to interpret the religion then that needs to be called out and the religious leaders spreading it ostracised.

I have never denied there is a population explosion. Indeed I have argued fiercely in other places that much more needs to be done to curtail it. The WHO is very active in this area. Europe birthrate declining whilst its population lives longer has been recognised as a problem for at least 50 years. It has little to do with wars killing our fathers. That might have had an impact for a while but not now. It’s culture and women’s emancipation. Them wanting careers and identities beyond being mothers and homemakers. The pill has enabled them to achieve that. Not caused it.

It isn’t going to change. The days of my childhood are long gone and are not coming back. If we need more people, as we do currently, then they will be born elsewhere. That being likely to be Asia or Africa is obvious. That’s where the people are.

What their religion is cannot be a factor. What matters is removing religion from being a defining function of anyone’s identity. That’s hard, but it is also essential.

You know my approach, so I won’t repeat it all but removing the role of religion from schools and public life and ensuring every child is taught our values and culture is vital. We have done it for many. Now we must for all.

I agree. Economics is a big factor in the reduction of family size, and the pill has allowed that to happen.

Yep, the pill, feminism and the power shift to multinational corporations has been an utter disaster for Europe and the west generally.

Only the pill was unavoidable.

Not just me. Many of those who view the trends with eyes that see them through a prism that recalls Europe in the 1930s also finds them disturbing.

In one German region the AfD have already been banned for promoting openly fascist ideas.

The obvious point is that we could have avoided all our problems with better decision making.
Taking an idealistic view is a recipe for disaster. Humanity always disappoints. It cannot change it's nature.
Division is part of the human condition. So is greed.

What we have done to this country is criminal, and to now say that we have to accept that and hope for the best is insulting.

The wars did see a major change in attitudes. Deaths in themselves reduced birth in the short term, and that had a knock on effect. Perhaps more importantly, there seems to have been a change in the early part of the 20th century and family sizes began to reduce. The pill accelerated that trend.

Regardless of the causes, the British people way of life has been sacrificed for short termism simply because of myopic self serving politicians.

That is where you delude yourself.

The majority share many of my views. Many of those are too afraid to express those opinions publicly.
You can't really blame them. We now live in a country where people are persecuted for 'wrong think'.

Whether anything is better, or worse, is a subjective question.

Regarding another’s opinion as criminal is what is insulting and nonsensical.

Accepting reality and responding to its needs is 100% more productive than moaning about it in a forum.

Changes are a fact of life. Sometimes what is positive in one way brings challenges in another. That’s what we face. Not a disaster to just cry into your computer screen over. Challenges to be met and overcome.

Politicians haven’t engineered these changes. They are evolutionary and international. The British way of life has not and will not be sacrificed. It needs to be emphasised, protected and respect demanded. That requires effort.

I am doing my bit. Why aren’t you? Have you just given up?

No they don’t.

Most want the illegals to be stopped but recognise the difficulties. Most also know that we cannot manage without overseas recruitment in key areas where there are shortages. Manufacturing can be “offshored”. So can some clerical back office work. Healthcare and construction needs to be done here. Universities need students. Families need to be kept together.

There is a large and noisy group of those instinctively opposed to immigration who haven’t really thought through the consequences of what they want. They though are not the majority.

like guns & nuclear weapons. After being invented, the Pill is a lobster-pot....no going back.

but......why is fertility on the floor in Europe and not on the floor in Africa ?

cos many in Europe say 'i cannot afford to have a ton of kids, especially at an early age'....and yet nobody in Africa seems to arrive at the same conclusion ?

the consequences of these decisions are now on our doorstep. Wisbech, If you believe my writing to be prejudiced, please illustrate where the truth has deviated from these opinions ?
