According the 2021 census there were 287 ethnic groups and nationalities (their words) in London, many of whom have historic enmities towards each other.
It's been suggested many times that they should have to accept and adapt to British culture with no clues as to how that might happen.

I don’t see the connection to my post but I don’t question those statistics.

That we have failed so far is no reason not to try harder and more intelligently. Success usually follows a series of failures. It’s how we learn.

What we cannot do is throw our hands in the air and do nothing. Complaining about past policy changes nothing. We are where we are and we must deal with it. Removing people who are now settled or have citizenship is not an option. Refusing family member visas isn’t morally acceptable. Not filling shortage vacancies isn’t an option either. Training internally takes time and lots of money. We must first provide the facilities and train the trainers. In such a fast changing world is that wise?

We must find the way to create a common settled identity for us all. I know it can be done for many. So why not for all?

We keep on working until they do. That involves breaking the generational chain. We insist all children attend mainstream school and mix with other faiths and no faith. No schools to be run by religions or teach religion. They should only teach about religions. All of them, and both the good and bad that they have done.

Every child gets taught British history and culture. Every child gets to participate in cultural events. These subjects become as core as English and Maths.

I realise what I have consistently argued for is revolutionary, but in our agnostic nation I suspect it would get support, if explained correctly. In my opinion there should be no faith schools at all, nor indeed, except in unavoidable circumstances, any home schooling. All children should mix with their peers, from every walk of life and culture.

Contrary to some opinions nothing like it has been tried before. It would be resisted by some for sure but that resistance can be overcome with patient reassurance.

I am in no way seeking to ban religion or the teaching of religion by parents to their children. Only that school is not the place for that. Home and places of worship are.

I am wanting all children to be taught our values and those of all religions at their schools and for them not either to be restricted to one, or not to any. I want minds to be opened, and not closed and for them to then reach their own conclusions.

Oh it’s much more than just the Labour Party who would need convincing. I cannot imagine any of the major, or smaller, parties yet adopting such a policy. I suspect it will be a long while before such thinking gains traction and for the divides to grow until it does.

Out of interest though, is it something you would support?
