I recently heard a story on Radio 4 about how AI takes over the world. It was very convincing and involved it finding its way out of the grasp of its human masters via their cell phones.

It was only after the story was concluded that the presenter advised that he wasn’t actually the author, as was said at the start, but that it was written by AI.

Enhanced? Does that mean more street crime, drug gangs, terrorism, nutty religions, turf wars, censorship of books, sectarianism, statue damaging, positive discrimination and constant race issues?

Maybe you meant something else.

If your argument to justify mass immigration and all the fallout from it is to tell us that should be grateful for takeaways, then it really is pointless continuing the discussion.

Assimilating foreign culture and being invaded by millions of migrants are two totally different things.

The nation would be better off if they did not supplement their diet using the vast number of unhealthy fast food outlets run by foreigners, many of who avoid paying tax.

It means, as you know very well, none of those things. It’s our existing standards which must remain supreme, although these already include much more compassion and tolerance of otherness than you seem comfortable with.

There are many ways our culture life has been enhanced through immigration over the centuries, far beyond the obvious food dishes we have learned to love.

You talk again of us being “invaded”. This is emotional clap trap. No one wants the level of illegal immigration to be as high as it is but although reliable estimates are notoriously difficult to determine by far the largest number arrive here legally, either by invitation to fill vacancies or to complete families. There are flows of people the other way too in our interconnected modern world. Those arriving to work or join family members aren’t invading us. We have opened our doors to them, but expect them to work, support the British economy and learn and accept our culture. Anyone seeking indefinite leave to remain, or citizenship, must study and pass the “Life in the UK test”. They already had to prove English language skills when first getting a visa.

Whether we continue to need the current level of skilled workers is unknown. Dealing with the undocumented is a problem no one has yet found an answer to. Speeding up the processing would help, but magic wands don’t exist.

Unhygienic kitchens are an issue in many places. The solution to which lies in regular inspection and enforcement action. A solution stymied by central government cutting the funding to local government for such services.

Anyone that doesn’t submit tax returns, or sends in falsified ones runs big risks. Risks that eventually catch up with them. HMRC are not daft. They know what the average return for every kind of business ought to be and if a pattern of underreporting is detected will open an enquiry. Which will forensically examine everything. Subsequent fines can be 100% of the tax shown to be underpaid, plus the tax, plus interest. It isn’t worth it.

As you know very well that’s not what was meant. The “other way” merely means they have left the UK. For work, for family and for other reasons. Where they go isn’t relevant. What is, is that they are no longer here.
