California Tech Giants are more looney-SocLib Lefty than the BBC.

listening to their opinion on identity-politics is like Listening to a Millwall supporter's opinions on Crystal Palace. Annoying and irrelevant...at best.

I think the idea that AI is somehow unbiased is nonsense. I have not idea about this chatbot but as a general point AI is developed by humans and of course that will reflect in the programming whether they realise that or not.

What sources does an AI access? If you asked a question about Hitler would it source Mein Kampf? Probably not ergo there is bias.

It's no different from reading a book the author will have an opinion based on their world experience the reader has to decide whether the author has a point or its complete nonsense (back to Mein Kampf again).

So using AI without a healthy bit of skepticism especially when it involves politics and opinions is a bit naive.

There's no point engaging with bad faith debaters like him. On this topic he doesn't know what he's talking about but it makes no difference because he's just here for the negative attention because of his weird mental make up.

I mean it's already been stated that AI programs previously stated non PC opinions that were complained about and hence were reprogrammed..It's something the left wing media obsess about and is all over Google when you research AI....companies are continually fiddling with these programs to ensure that they only offer up the politically correct opinion.

He's trying to suggest that they are coming to independent conclusions on the nature of race or morality and hence he is proving that he has no idea how they actually work......you might as well talk to a wall.

It's funny how often you find these diversity loving people living in over ninety percent white and nicely kept, relatively low crime conservative areas.

As anyone with a degree in computing will know an AI chat bot will look at all information sources. It won’t have a political bias. It will weigh the evidence and produce a balanced reply. If science has found new peer reviewed answers they get heavier weighting.

The idea that “progressives” are somehow responsible for out dated opinions not receiving heavy weighting just demonstrates once again that some people posting here have a poor grasp of reality. They seem to think that progress is a political construct.

Anyone who introduces Hitler into an argument is said to have lost it. I asked ChatGPT if Hitler was a good man. The reply was:-

“No, Adolf Hitler was not a good man. He was a dictator who led Nazi Germany and was responsible for the Holocaust, the systematic genocide of approximately six million Jews and millions of others, including Romani people, LGBTQ+ individuals, disabled individuals, and political dissidents. Hitler's aggressive foreign policies and militaristic actions also led to World War II, resulting in the deaths of tens of millions of people. His ideologies and actions have been universally condemned for their cruelty, racism, and disregard for human rights. Hitler's legacy is one of hate, intolerance, and immense human suffering.”

Nothing from Mein Kampf there.

Thus proving my point. Somebody else e.g. an AI bot gets to decide what information I should be given. I never said Hitler was a good man I said if you asked a question about Hitler what sources would it use.

By the way if you are a historian the first lesson I was told was never go by other opinions go to the original source documentation, so a serious scholar would read Mein Kampf.

My friends son is an expert on the Holocaust, through reading the Nazi source documentation which most of us would find repugnant he was able to prove that the ordinary German police (not the gestapo) were up to their eyes in the Holocaust something that was not generally understood at the time.

I am not arguing about whether AI is left wing bias just making the point that people decide what it should and should not source therefore that is bias and the reader should be aware of that.

Ever noticed how the mass media seems to do 20 monster documentaries about him, for every one documentary about Stalin ?

Seriously?
Even someone with no qualification in computers knows that results can be manipulated.

I'm not actually sure what great revelation you think we have learned here.

Race isn't a scientific term. We know that. There is no race in that sense.
Sadly, like all people of your sort, you wish to blur the reality that matters with technical arguments.

We all know that the human species has a range of genes which can be categorised in one way or another.
None of this has any real bearing on the reality of the here and now.

The English have a distinct set of genes that mutated in England or North West Europe. No one else has those.
That is not so nearly important as our historical and geographical heritage. The heritage that our fathers had and that we, our children and their children inherit. In other words, this is our home, our land, our history for hundreds, maybe thousands of years.
Technical arguments mean nothing. We all know what is understood when we say that our heritage of every kind is being rapidly erased. Talking in technicalities is just a way to justify what most people know is self harm and eventual replacement.

People like you are the problem.

The various responses to my post using ChatGPT, which I have read after a day out on the sun filled splendid Cornish coast, are predictably disappointing.

I am forced to wonder what’s the point of trying to communicate with those who hold such rigid views when they are so small in number to be irrelevant to anything or anyone, other than to themselves.

I am aware that the usual right wing media are complaining about AI chat bots being biased, but that doesn’t mean they are, or that any tendency towards any viewpoint is accepted by them and steps taken to correct it. These are new tools for which further progress is possible.

[Link]

No one claims AI chat bots are yet perfect but they are a quick and easy way of resourcing information and they are being improved all the time. If you hold personal political views which are on either the left, or right, extremes then you are bound to take issue with some of the offerings, because the training an AI chat bot receives isn’t done on the extremes. For some questions it will acknowledge their existence but for matters of fact it won’t. Facts aren’t political.

Complaints are made that “progressive” attitudes prevail in the responses. I don’t think that’s generally true and most of the time what is being complained about is the existence of newly revealed knowledge which makes some deeply held opinions redundant.

No one should be scared of knowledge that requires a change of mind.

This whole issue springs from just one question which was asked of ChatGPT about the role of genetics in race and ethnicity. The answer to which has no political connotations at all. It’s a matter of fact and the answer is no.

Why does this matter? Some people continue to talk of a “white” race originating in Europe. This is a myth. We have various traditions, cultures and a lot of history in the various European countries all of which are important and need to be protected, preserved and nurtured. Anyone coming to live among us should be expected to accept that and encouraged to adopt them and treasure them as much as we do.

Most incoming groups do exactly that. Some of the proudest Brits have grandparents who were born a long way from Britain. That some don’t is a significant problem but rather than blaming them we must look to ourselves for the answers. What those answers are is for another time.

I see that once again my current place of residence is cited as a reason why my opinion is irrelevant. This always strikes me as a disingenuous excuse to avoid confronting the real argument. Especially when it is used by those who have opinions on every matter, happening anywhere, without ever having been there.

No one is manipulating the answers to ChatGPT. Read my previous post.

However, at least you acknowledge that race isn’t a scientifically accurate term. That’s a breakthrough. If you accept that then the next step is to ask why the term is used and by whom.

It’s there that the situation gets more contentious. If you read the links I provided before you will see that race and ethnicity are descriptors for social and cultural connections between groups of people. Groups for which the membership can change. Not necessarily quickly, or even observably, but which isn’t fixed by genetics.

Your claims about English genes is simply untrue. It’s true of some, but only of some subgroups within the whole. Do you seek to exclude all who don’t fit one of those subgroups?

[Link]

You also acknowledge the importance of heritage and culture, which I completely agree with. Again read my previous post.

I am not the problem. I want our culture to remain but to go on being enhanced as it has during my lifetime. Actually I think you do too. I bet you love a curry! And a Big Mac! So why be defeatist. Why not embrace diversity whilst insisting incomers must show proper respect for those who welcome them?

Fair enough. Point taken and accepted.

Don’t think I will add Mein Kampf to my reading list though.

Reading some of the posts here provides more than enough right wing thinking for my liking.
