Those who hope for a resurgent hard right Tory Party, whether called that or Remain, being strong enough to be anything more than a noisy nuisance in the 2029 election are going to be very disappointed.

I believe, and hope, the Tories will finally split. It’s long overdue. It could trigger a more general realignment. The right deserve a voice, just as the left does. The bulk of us are not though either truly left or right. Most have a bit of both in our political thinking. The centre will always tend to hold power here, probably in the future via coalitions which sometimes include the right and sometimes the left but mostly just the centre left and centre right. What their names will be is less important.

Whether it will prove better than we have had in the last 80 years time alone will tell but I wager people will still be complaining here.

The Tories are going to lose most of their Cameron intake. Their base is considerably more right wing than its MPs....just like the Labour party base is considerably more left wing.

The new Tory leader isn't going to be a new version of Sunak because that wing of the party will be responsible for a wipe out. They are obviously going to go right...In this way the Tories will be reflecting the trend across Europe.

It's just a question of how right wing and whether Reform and Reclaim merge with the Tories or not.....which is likely.

As to whether that is a successful election winning formula will just have to be had in the eating.

Personally I don't think it matters that much. What I want is both the Labour party and the Tory party to reflect their bases rather than the elitist careerists who lie to them and betray their voters.

Almost nothing beyond the second option meaning we accept the rules but have no say over them.

But its not designed to actually do anything other than shave a few votes off the status quo option.

I would guess the single biggest fear they will have around a second vote is the legitimacy of it based on voter numbers. Offer a straight forward binary option once again and any vote for us to rejoin that comes in under the vote tally for the original Leave victory will be rightly scoffed at. They cannot make it a like-for-like vote, hence offering third option or even more. Maybe even some kind of 2 part vote with a run-off. It has to framed a very different kind of referendum than those of 2016.

Of course all of this is hyperbole on my part but for the life of me, I cannot arrive at any other conclusion for the Tories, and lets not forget this is the single most successful modern political machine in the world just literally making any and every kind of mistake going. They are simply not that stupid, as much as we want to believe.

This f*** up HAS to be deliberate. And the only reason I can see is because of trying to get us back into the EU in a way that keeps them out of the firing line.

They are not stupid, they are split. As are the "blue" electorate. Broad church was formerly a good thing for the party. Now it is what is destroying it.

The debate rages about how Brexit has and continues to effect our everyday lives, but there is no doubt in my head that it is Europe (AGAIN) that is bringing down the tory party.

Not necessarily that impactful when it comes to the GE but potentially crucial when it comes to the shenanigans that will follow it around getting us back into the EU.

And all under a 'Conservative' Government elected on the back of getting Brexit done. These backstabbing Tory b******s deserve wiping out forever.

I certainly hope so!

A whining populace pressing politicians to do better provides the impetus for them to do so and not drift into complacent self service.

That is always better than a soma fed, stupefied populace willing to accept as fact anything they hear.

Wisbech is talking about the UK Gov. not Palace.

(I'm aware there's a lot of holes in that joke but I've managed to amuse myself there).

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Sunak's plan is to say the word 'plan' multiple times in the belief that people will think he has one.

Now he is acting with the 'will of the people' without any justification for that statement, he actually thinks small boats are a national emergency.

At the 2019 election the tory manifesto said they would observe international law and the refugee convention.

That is the actual mandate they have.

I thought his news conference was ridiculous and the media too, the public have much more important issues than small boats.

What does the panel make of this? Galloway certainly knows how to get the Muslim vote out and with his party standing in 500 plus seats, might make a difference.

My own take on it is that the impact might be difficult to gauge. Given that an assumption has to be that it will be the Muslim vote it stands to sway the most then I am wondering how easy will that be for the pollsters to take into account?

Panesar, being a Sikh, may not be the right fit to stand in a majority Muslim constituency. It will be interesting to see what sort of numbers he polls in Ealing and Southall.
