Not for the first time here perfectly straightforward responses are misinterpreted. Whether deliberately or through a genuine lack of comprehension is an open question. That you think I am "out of kilter" doesn't mean I am because the views here are just a sub section of the majority. They are therefore not representative of the majority. Corbyn's views are "out of kilter" with everyone other than his core support. .
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

This poster continually claims that the views on this website are on the margins and not the majority. Yet the general pro Brexit stance of this site has been vindicated in this election and it's his position that was rejected. He grasps onto any narrative that avoids the blame that many would quite reasonably see as being partly on people like him. Those who seeked, the blocking of Brexit at every turn. Yes, the anti Corbyn vote was there....This vote would have been there in 2017 as well, yet Corbyn received many more votes. The reality is that people wanted to get Brexit done.....Of the 59 seats Labour lost 50 had voted leave. Yet he continues to suggest that it's the posters on this site who are somehow disconnected from the mainstream. Everything he advocated for has been rejected by the public: It's as simple as that.

I am not for a moment suggesting that the views of the people posting here are totally disconnected from those who achieved a majority last Thursday. Of course they aren't but that majority is very far from being a homogeneous group. It contains previous Labour voters who felt obliged to abandon their roots and those who would have voted for Farage if he hadn't stood down their candidates. Now which of those two groups do you think the majority of posters on this site most closely resemble? The point being answered had nothing to do with my opinions about that group. It was responding to a rather snide comparison and nothing else. Diverting a discussion as a method of avoiding the issue is a favourite tactic here and it is again being used. Nothing was said about Brexit or anything else.

The views here are certainly part of the majority that achieved the election result but they are very far from being in the Tory mainstream. My views and Corbyn's are poles apart but that's not the only difference. Corbyn is detested by all except a fairly small and increasingly insignificant minority. I am just detested on here. I know of nowhere else where I receive such treatment. There are a number of web forums where I receive fulsome praise and where people with your kind of views are routinely unmercilessly ridiculed. I don't though hang around such places as, unlike many here, I am not looking for constant confirmation of my own biases. You are detested on here? Seriously? But have you ever tried going into a social situation and telling people 30 times a day how something works when it clearly doesn’t? Have a go. What sort of response were you expecting? ‘Fulsome praise’ like you get on your other web forums? These kind of basics are learnt in childhood when you get your first cold shoulder.

My post is a general point and not related to ongoing discussions. The hardcore element of 'Remainer politics' has been soundly rejected and those who advocated for the blocking of Brexit in parliament shown just how far they were from the general national mood. Most people aren't that political yet the message that a democratic vote was being resisted was very clear. The idea that this had to be moved along was evident even among many who had originally voted remain.

I am not part of the buddy buddy cosy bias confirmation group who cuddle together for mutual support. You should try going onto a few liberal leaning groups and see what response you get, although I expect it would be a lot more respectful and polite than here. These kind of basics are learnt in childhood when you get your first cold shoulder. No they aren't. I learned resilience and to have confidence in my opinions rather than to just follow the herd. It takes balls to do that, whilst the cowards act like sheep. In my nursery any kid who showed an outsider the cold shoulder was taught a hard lesson.
